Edmonton Supports Regulations to be Set for Rent Increases and a Carbon Tax or Trading System.
A recent public opinion poll conducted in Edmonton Alberta concerning headline issues indicated over two thirds of those polled agree the City of Edmonton should regulate rent increases and housing developments. It also indicated that Canadian Federal Government should implement a carbon tax or trading system to target emitters to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while there was a draw for predicting if the Oilers would make it to the 2008 NHL playoffs.
Over 400 residents of Edmonton were asked the following three questions:
- Should the City of Edmonton regulate rent increases and housing development?
- Should the Canadian Federal Government implement a carbon tax or trading system to target emitters to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
- Will the Oilers make the 2007/2008 NHL Playoffs?
Here’s what Edmonton residents said:
- Should the City of Edmonton regulate rent increases and housing development? Of those decided:
Yes: 69.7% No: 26.2% - Should the Canadian Federal Government implement a carbon tax or trading system to target emitters to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes: 60.6% No: 26.8% DK/Ref: 12.6% - Will the Oilers make the 2007/2008 NHL Playoffs? Of the decided residents:
Yes: 48.9% No: 50.4%
Gender differences on the 3 questions were only notable on the prediction for the Oiler’s playoff chances – women were significantly more optimistic than men ( 55% vs. 42%).
Age differences were only notable on the support of the Federal government implementing a carbon tax or trading system to target emitters to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Adults 18 to 45 were significantly more likely to show support of this initiative than those 46+ (70.5% vs. 50.2%).
